Spring: The Stir of Hope, The Pain of Letdown

Spring can be an awakening. The days lengthen, the trees blossom, and we feel pockets of warmth in the community. There is a promise of hope in the air and an anticipation of better days to come. On the other hand, these seasonal shifts can also stir up stuck emotions, and bring forth fear, uncertainty, and despair.
Some people grapple with anxious thoughts or depressive feelings in the winter, with the hope that they will resolve once the weather changes. These feelings can naturally shift or lessen with more sunlight and outdoor activity. But it also not uncommon for depression, anxiety, and grief to amplify in the shoulder seasons. Spring can be a reminder that the world is moving forward, and you still feel stuck, empty, or unable to enjoy or engage in activities or connections that spark a sense of meaning. Maybe meaning feels lost right now.
Throughout my years as a counselor, I have found a common thread in variations of this felt sense of overall disconnection and isolation that can happen this time of year, especially in our community where there can be a pressure to be living life to the fullest and enjoying everything our beautiful surroundings have to offer. You may think, “I’ve got everything at my fingertips and yet I can’t enjoy any of it. What’s wrong with me?” I want to let you know that you are not alone in these narratives. And there is nothing wrong with you.
Therapy can help to unpack these beliefs among others that have been weighing you down. You can find ways to shake up your stuck thoughts and emotions and commit to living a life that brings you purpose and value. Take the step to acknowledge your pain and suffering and access your hope and vitality. I’m here to help you find your path to healing.
